My introduction to Steven Universe has to be just about the most absurd 1-2 punch that I think I've ever experienced in my life. The very first piece of Steven Universe content I was exposed to was Steven After Not Surviving, followed swiftly by the generally notorious Lily Orhcard video "Steven Universe is Garbage, and Here's Why"
Looking back, it honestly doesn't surprise me that it took a whole 2 extra years after that fucking wombo combo for me to be willing to engage with the series in a genuine manner.
My actual stepping-on point was specifically the movie, which I honeslty didn't struggle to keep up with thanks to having been spoiled already. To this day I can't put into words how viscerally I felt this strange and personal connection to Steven and the entire crux of his plot in the movie. It's a deeply personal feeling and I'm honestly kind of shocked at how immediately I was pulled into the universe ha and its characters.
Once I did properly engage with the show, though, I was HOOKED. It didn't matter to me that the Lily Orchard video had totally spoiled me on 90% of the plot or that I knew some of the largest plot twists in the series; I still binged the entire damn thing in a single week. At first I was watching it with my best friend (who I forced to endure literal consecutive hours of viewing becuase I don't know what consuming media in moderation is), but when they got busy I just... kept on going. I felt utterly possessed to finish the show.
I'm one of those people who feel that, unfortunately, the show never really got to live up to its full potential. Despite that, though, it's never stopped me from engaging with the wide swaths of amazing fan content out there in the wild, and it definitely hasn't stopped me from creating a bunch of different pieces of fan content using the wide cast of characters and the undeniably neat worldbuilding.
Consider this my hub area for all of my fan content, whether it be fanfictions, AUs, or even just headcanons! The sidebar has everything of the sort!
